It's no secret to Tennessee residents that Gatlinburg is one of the most beautiful places in the state, and maybe even in the country. Its sights draw thousands of visitors each year, and the area is full of hidden gems for locals and tourists to explore.

Now, Architectural Digest confirmed what Tennesseans always knew: Gatlinburg is the prettiest town in the Volunteer State.

"Gatlinburg has a smoky sky and lush green hills that are eye candy for nature explorers," Architectural Digest said.

The "Prettiest Town in Every U.S. State" list was released by Architectural Digest after it couldn't pick the prettiest place in the country.

"Picking a singular most beautiful location is a near-impossible feat," Architectural Digest said.

What to see in Gatlinburg

Gatlinburg lies in the

eastern half of Sevier County, just outside Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

Although known for its kitschy downtown, Gatlinburg offers great natural wonders, including scenic drives that allow sightseers to take in the views from the comfort of their cars.

The Roaring Fork Motor Trail, which takes drivers to Place of a Thousand Drips and Ely's Mill, is among the suggested routes. Cades Cove Loop Road is another scenic drive.

If getting out of your car to experience fall is more of your thing, outdoor activities like Gatlinburg SkyPark, Treetop Skywalk at Anakeesta and ziplining about Smokies are all great ways to experience the sights of Gatlinburg from above.

The town's parks also offer outdoor recreational activities to enjoy with a mountain view, including disc golf, pickleball, tennis, and trout fishing. Herbert Holt Park, Mills Park and Mynatt Park are some spots to check out.

Now is one of the best times to visit Gatlinburg. Despite being the busy season, fall brings vibrant autumn colors that attract people from all over the country to visit East Tennessee.

Another great way to see Gatlinburg's fall sights is on the fare-free trolleys. Gatlinburg's trolley system goes all around the town so visitors can make all the fall stops in one day.
