Are you ready for a new furry friend (or two or three) to share your life, your couch and your home? Local shelters and rescue groups offer dogs, cats and other potential pets that need good homes as much as you need someone to love.
Knox News can help you find the match who melts your heart - and then begs for a bite of your sandwich - with our new Pet of the Week feature. Every Monday knoxnews.com features a new round of adorable adoptable dogs and cats, complete with photos and brief bios. You can vote for your fave - and also click through to the relevant shelter if you spot The One.
Unfortunately you can't just adopt them all; in Knoxville, pet owners are allowed to have no more than four dogs and/or cats older than 6 months unless they have a permit
for a kennel, boarding facility, pet shop or pet dealership. In Knox County, the number of permitted pets depends on the size of your lot.
And when you're taking your new best friend home, remember that Knoxville requires all pets to be vaccinated, registered and licensed. A vaccination and license tag will be issued to each dog and cat when they are registered. Tags must be purchased annually and worn by your pet. Young-Williams Animal Center and most veterinarians in the city offer the sale of city tags. In Knox County, dogs must wear a vaccination tag.
