I was shocked and disappointed to read about Police Chief Paul Noel's conduct and suspension from the Knoxville Police Department! He has made so many positive improvements to our community over the years. What a terrible personal lapse in judgement!
However, I am equally shocked that officer Jasmine Reed isn't being held accountable as well for her participation in this serious matter. This is her second involvement in being found in a compromising entanglement with a member (superior) of her department! To be sure, this has to be demoralizing to the Knoxville Police Department and all its employees. How many more times is Ms. Reed going to be allowed to participate in immoral activities with her superiors only to profess being afraid of being intimidated
by them? Her texts certainly seem quite to the contrary: a willing participant! Where is her discipline? As the saying goes; "It takes two to tango."
Regardless of her positive accomplishments on the job, it seems that she presents a stain on the department's good name. I agree with the swift disciplinary actions taken by the mayor regarding Chief Noel. But the mayor's office needs to revisit the conduct of Officer Reed and any others as it pertains to the integrity of the Knoxville Police Department going forward.
