The section of U.S. Highway 441 known as the GatlinburgSpur will have single-lane closures beginning Sept. 28 and continuing through the beginning of October while crews complete essential maintenance, according to the National Park Service. Drivers should prepare for traffic delays on this busy stretch.
Closures are expected for several days while crews complete needed roadside work including mowing and pruning, ditch and culvert cleaning, litter pick-up and removal of tree and rock debris.
Throughout the year, millions drive along The Spur, which connects Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg. The 4.2-mile stretch is one of the busiest routes in the area, with an average of 40,000 vehicles per day traveling the road during the summer season, according
to the park.
When will the Spur have single-lane closures?
- 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Sept. 28-29 | Northbound lane closures are scheduled
- 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Sept. 30-Oct. 1 | Southbound lane closures are scheduled
Visitors traveling during these times might experience traffic delays. Temporary single-lane closures during roadside maintenance allow park staff to complete work safely and efficiently.
