Knoxville can't get enough coffee, and the local scene keeps growing with new shops and signature drinks.
A neighborhood bar north of the Old City is adding a coffee menu this fall, a familiar coffee shop in Sequoyah Hills just opened a new downtown location, and a popular mobile matcha business is now selling its signature green tea powder so customers can make drinks at home.

Monkey's Bar adding coffee to its menu next month
Monkey's Bar, at the corner of West Depot Ave. and North Central Street, is reaching into
the coffee scene starting in the middle of October.
Located just north of the Old City, the woman-owned bar has been serving creative cocktails and other classic drinks since it replaced the neighborhood-favorite Central Depot in 2022.
Monkey's Bar will begin serving coffee by day and cocktails by night, according to a recent social media post. The business has not announced what's on the menu or what its new hours will be.
The bar is named after owner Elle Nelson's golden retriever, Monkey, and describes itself as "the warm and welcoming place to hang out with friends, meet new people, and become your new favorite hang."
"The amount of people that will come through these doors and all the connections that get made, that's something that I love to do," Nelson previously told Knox News. "And that I can provide the space to do that with a bar named after my dog seems right."

Treetop Coffee Shop now open in downtown Knoxville
A mobile coffee truck built on the dreams of two best friends has grown to two brick-and-mortar locations after Treetop Coffee Shop opened its second location Sept. 26.
Treetop has expanded to Gay Street in downtown Knoxville, seven years after Courtney Dooley and Rachel Casstevens started the business as a mobile coffee truck. Their original brick and mortar in Sequoyah Hills remains open at 1206 Kennesaw Ave.
The new Gay Street location is inside Lone Tree Pass, a $30 million development from Hatcher-Hill Properties that includes condos, a new brunch spot and an Italian steakhouse coming soon.
Treetop is open 6:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

You can make this viral matcha at home
Matcha Mama, a mobile matcha truck that has taken Knoxville's tea culture by storm in recent months, is now selling its signature green tea powder. It's available online and in person, wherever the mobile business is set up next.
Asia Blake launched Matcha Mama earlier this year and expected a small, loyal customer base. Instead, she found a cult following at pop-ups around the city.
"You can now take home the same matcha you know + love from our pop-ups & have Matcha Mama at home," Blake posted on Instagram. "Our first tins are officially available & seeing something with our name on it feels a little surreal."
