Our U.S. senators, Marsha Blackburn and Bill Hagerty, are running for election in November. But Tennesseans have no good reason to vote for them.
Let’s start with Blackburn. Besides never holding a town hall, ignoring constituents’ wishes, giving the president 110% unwavering support, she voted for Todd Blanche for attorney general. This alone makes me wonder what kind of governor she would be.
Blanche is wholly in Trump’s pocket, charging innocent people with crimes because Trump wants them punished; actively hiding the Epstein files despite a law passed unanimously by both houses; establishing a payoff to Jan. 6 rioters for their crimes while simultaneously drafting an agreement to waive an (apparently) enormous tax bill owed by the president.
I could go on but you get the idea.
If Blackburn thinks Blanche is a good choice for the top law enforcement job, what kind of people will she put in positions in Tennessee? She has made it clear she has no concern for Tennesseans’ wellbeing and preferences.
As for Senator Invisible Hagerty, one of his election signs says, “Hagerty. U.S. Senator. Trump endorses me.” That is all. What has he done for the citizens of this state? Nothing. When you call his Washington office, you get voice mail. When you call his Knoxville office you get a perpetual busy signal; I’ve never once gotten a human.
Both senators could have taken action to stop the president’s lawlessness and destruction of our democracy. But neither did anything whatsoever. I presume they approve of his destructive actions.
I’m so tired of people who want to hold public office but clearly do not see themselves as serving their constituents. We have a chance to choose better in November. Let’s take it.
