What is the story about?
The lives of Americans drastically changed after the acts of violence that took place on Sept. 11, 2001. Now, 25 years later, Americans will come together to honor the lives of the victims and the acts of service from the heroes that risked everything.
This year, Sept. 11 falls on a Friday. Knoxville will have several services and related programs on that day to honor the victims and heroes of 9/11.

City of Knoxville 9/11 Memorial Service
Sept. 11
- Mayor Indya Kincannon and other city leaders will observe the 25th anniversary of the September 11th attacks with an expanded ceremony at a new location. This year's ceremony will be at the Delaney Plaza along Stadium Way, just before the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation’s Memorial Stair Climb.
- The ceremony will begin with song around 8:30 a.m., and Knoxville Police Department Chaplain Pam Neal will officially welcome everyone at 8:42 a.m. The ceremony will include a moment of silence at 8:46 a.m., while bells toll to mark the time hijackers crashed American Airlines Flight 11 into the North Tower of the World Trade Center in New York City.
- The ceremony also will include a formal flag procession down Jackson Avenue, bagpipes, music from the All Souls Choir, and a benediction by KFD Chaplain Paul Trumpore.

The National Fallen Firefighters Foundation Knoxville 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb
Sept. 11
- The National Fallen Firefighters Foundation 9/11 Memorial Stair Climbs is a way to honor and remember the Fire Department of New York firefighters who gave their lives so that others might live on Sept. 11, 2001. Each participant pays tribute to an FDNY firefighter by climbing the equivalent of the 110 stories of the World Trade Center. The Stair Climbs fund the programs provided by the NFFF to support the families of local fallen firefighters and the FDNY Counseling Service Unit.
- The climb will be at Covenant Health Park with onsite registration beginning at 8:30 a.m. An opening ceremony will be a 9:30 a.m. The climb will start at 9:45 a.m. and will continue until noon.
- This event is open to first responders only, including firefighters, police, EMS, military, veterans and JROTC.
- Online registration will close at midnight on Sept. 9.
- The event will be in the same area and follow the City of Knoxville 9/11 Memorial Service.

CAC Office on Aging’s AmeriCorps Seniors 9/11 Day of Service
Sept. 11
- The CAC Office on Aging's AmeriCorps Seniors invites the community to join in a day of service and remembrance for the lives lost and the heroes born on Sept. 11, 2001. The 9 a.m.-noon event will include guest speakers, exhibits, information and light refreshments at the CAC Ross Building.
- Guest speakers include Jeremy Bond, Greg Roberts, and Kim Hansard.

Concerts For Our Own's Tributes & Tunes: A Benefit Concert for First Responders
Sept. 11
- Tributes & Tunes: A Benefit Concert for First Responders, presented by Concerts For Our Own, is a community-centered evening honoring the courage, sacrifice and service of the men and women who protect our communities every day. The event will include live music, memorial tributes and shared community experiences at 7 p.m. at World’s Fair Park.
- The event will be hosted by VFL DJ Sterl the Pearl and will feature a performance by Cruz Contreras and the Black Lillies. Special guest appearances will include Con Hunley, Eric Baker, Jill Andrews, Hanna Marie Kelley and Jeanine Fuller and The True Funk Souldiers.
- Attendees will experience the Survivor Tree Tribute, 343 Remembrance Wall, Honor Guard Presentation and Invocation, First Responder Recognition Ceremony, and moments of community reflection
- Proceeds from the evening will benefit organizations supporting firefighters, law enforcement officers, EMS personnel and first responder families across East Tennessee. Tickets are $25; first responders will receive free admission.
