Former Tennessee basketball star Josh Richardson is retiring after spending a decade playing in the NBA.
The 32-year-old Richardson last played professional basketball for Basket Zaragora in Spain. His last NBA appearance was with the Miami Heat during the 2024-25 season.
"I always gave my best, that’s why i can say this with no regret. I am grateful to have been able to love this game and it love me back as much as it did. It wasn’t set up for me at any point in my career, and from high school, college, and the pros," Richardson wrote July 29 on Instagram. "I humbly worked my butt off every day be the best that I could be. All my fans, coaches and teammates, I hope I left a good impression and a positive view of me."
A three-star recruit from
Edmond, Oklahoma, turned three-year starter for Tennessee, Richardson earned two SEC all-defense team selections and first-team All-SEC selection while playing under Cuonzo Martin. The Vols reached the Sweet 16 during Richardson's first season as a starter and he averaged 19.3 points and three assists while leading the team in field goal percentage during their four NCAA Tournament games.
Richardson finished his career at Tennessee ranked third in school history in games played (136), ninth in minutes played (3,802), ninth in games started (110), 10th in steals (147), 16th in blocks (88) and 28th in scoring (1,252) before the Heat selected him with the 40th overall pick in the second round of the 2015 NBA Draft.
He had a 10-year career in the NBA while playing for the Heat, Dallas Mavericks, San Antonio Spurs, Boston Celtics, Philadelphia 76ers and New Orleans Pelicans.
