Utah football senior defensive tackle Jamal Wallace has been suspended indefinitely from the program, a Utah spokesperson confirmed to USA TODAY Sports in a statement on Oct. 21.
Wallace played two seasons at Tennessee after arriving as a junior college transfer. He was plagued by injuries in the 2024 season, played only three games and took a redshirt. He played six games and made four tackles in the 2025 season.
According to The Salt Lake Tribune, Wallace was arrested after a woman reported to Salt Lake City police allegations he raped her and shared videos of the assault on her Snapchat account.
Salt Lake County jail dockets indicate Wallace was arrested and booked on
Sunday, Oct. 11, on misdemeanor charges of distribution of an intimate image. He was not arrested on suspicion of a sexual assault and, per the Tribune, did not face formal charges as of Oct. 21. He was released on Oct. 12 on pre-trial bond — $5,000, per the Tribune.
"We were made aware of the situation with Jamal Wallace on Oct. 11, and he was immediately placed on an indefinite suspension from the program," a Utah athletics spokesperson said in a statement provided to USA TODAY Sports. “We take these matters seriously. As this is a pending legal matter we have no further comment at this time.”
The Tribune, citing an arrest document, reported Wallace denied sexually assaulting the woman during a police interview. Per the document, Wallace told officers he did access her Snapchat account to see with whom she had been communicating.
Citing a probable cause affidavit, the Tribune reported Wallace and the woman — who described Wallace as her "off-and-on dating partner" — met on Oct. 9 to discuss their relationship. She alleged Wallace instead "forced her to engage in various sex acts, and at one point, grabbed her cell phone and told her he wanted to change the music that was playing."
Wallace has appeared in one game this season for Utah.
