The Cattywampus Puppet Council is hosting a parade Sept. 4 to honor the life and legacy of East Tennessee native Dolly Parton.
The group announced plans for the downtown Knoxville parade, adding to the thousands of ways the world is mourning the loss of Parton earlier this week.
"Parade, dance and sing your way down to Market Square," the announcement reads, "as we reflect on Dolly Parton's impact on our region, our world and our own lives."
The parade is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. in front of the City-County Building Lawn at 400 Main St. The parade will progress toward Market Street, passing the East Tennessee History Center and ending at the Market Square stage near the Strong Alley Dolly Parton mural.
Organizers encourage attendees to bring
offerings for the mural: "art, flowers or anything else that feels meaningful." They also hope people "dress bold, bright, colorful − wear and carry things that represent what Dolly means to you."
