Regal is honoring Dolly Parton by showing two of her iconic movies in theaters throughout Tennessee, and later the nation.
Parton died Aug. 25 after a brief bout with cancer, and the world is mourning her death while celebrating her life, accomplishments and personality. One way people are remembering the "Queen of Country Music" is through her film performances.
"The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas" will play first on Saturday, Aug. 29, with "Steel Magnolias" following on Sunday, Aug. 30. Tickets for each movie will be $9.25, and all of the proceeds will support Dolly Parton's Imagination Library.
Twelve Regal theaters in Tennessee will show Parton's movies, including all four Regal theaters in Knoxville, where the movie theater chain is headquartered.
Regal will expand both movies next weekend to theaters across the United States, continuing to support Parton's literacy program.
“Dolly has always had such a special connection to Tennessee, and Regal is proud to offer our guests a way to come together and celebrate the impact she’s had on our state and around the world,” Regal's head of marketing Vikki Neil said in a news release. “As a company with our own roots in East Tennessee, bringing two of her films back to theatres while supporting the Imagination Library felt like a meaningful way to honor how she never forgot where she came from, even as her impact reached far beyond it.”
