Infielder Ian Jansen became the newest member of Tennessee baseball's 2028 recruiting class when he committed to the Vols on Oct. 6.
"Next stop: Knoxville!" Jansen wrote in an Instagram post announcing his decision. "Iām excited to announce my commitment to the University of Tennessee to continue my academic and baseball career! Thank you to all my teammates along the way for pushing me to become a better leader and player, and to my friends for always supporting me."
Jansen visited Tennessee the weekend of Sept. 19 when the football team played Kennesaw State. By choosing the Vols, he become the seventh commit in coach Josh Elander's 2028 recruiting class.
He is high school teammates with right-handed pitcher Trigg Listerman, who committed on
Sept. 20 after visiting the same weekend. They both attend Cambridge Christian Academy in Tampa, Florida.
The Vols' other 2028 commits are outfielder Hudson Oliver, right-handed pitchers AJ Dungan and Mason Little, first baseman/outfielder Keelan Zumwalt and catcher Logan Arnett.
Jansen is listed as a shortstop standing at 6-foot-4, 205 pounds. He is ranked by Perfect Game as the No. 63 prospect in his class, No. 19 shortstop and No. 11 player from Florida. Prep Baseball Report ranks him as No. 56 overall player and No. 8 player from his home state.
Jansen hit .385 with seven home runs and 26 RBIs during his sophomore season, according to MaxPreps.
