Who needs tech support? When a headset issue arose on the Detroit Lions sideline, backup quarterback and aerospace engineer Josh Dobbs showed starter Jared Goff and their coach it wasn't exactly rocket science.
Dobbs, a former Tennessee quarterback who previously worked with NASA, went viral for the hilarious sideline interaction during the Lions' Sept. 27 game against the New York Jets.
The video captures a conversation on the bench between Lions quarterbacks coach Mark Brunell and Goff, who suggests Brunell use a headset with the earpiece in his right ear instead of his left so the two can hear each other better while sitting side by side.
Enter Dobbs, who appears to blow their minds with a surprisingly simple fix: rotating the microphone 180
degrees, allowing the headset to be worn on the opposite ear.
"HE IS HOUDINI," read the caption of an Instagram post from the NFL, which has earned more than 32,000 likes. The NFL on ESPN posted a similar video that has earned more than 81,000 likes with the caption: "Josh Dobbs just changed their lives."
While readying for a career as a professional athlete, Dobbs studied aerospace engineering at the University of Tennessee at Knoxville, which set him apart in the locker room and shaped how he views problem-solving, teamwork and innovation.
UT named Dobbs a 2017 Torchbearer, the highest honor given to students who represent excellence in leadership and service.
Days before the scheduled return to Earth for the Artemis II crew, Dobbs shared an important message: "Don't be afraid to do the hard thing."
Good advice, though this particular problem turned out to have a much simpler solution.
