Tennessee football and fans should be ready for rain.
The forecast calls for overnight rain continuing throughout the day as the No. 13 Vols (3-1, 0-1 SEC) host Auburn (3-1, 1-1) on Oct. 3 (3:30 p.m. ET,
ESPN) at Neyland Stadium.
The chance of rain on Oct. 3 in Knoxville reaches 52% at 5 a.m. ET and doesn't dip back below 50% until 5 p.m. Forecasts call for 0.57 inches of rain accumulation throughout the day. Winds are expected to be light, peaking at five miles per hour between 1-7 p.m.
The Vols have played in extreme heat during the season opener against Furman on Sept. 5, and in oppressive humidity on the road at Georgia Tech on Sept. 12, but they have yet to play in the rain this season.
UT's rushing attack was limited to 70 yards on 44 carries in their 20-17 loss to Texas on Sept. 26. With wet conditions threatening to make passing a challenge, the Vols will be needed to get the run game back on track against Auburn and practice wet ball drills in the days leading up to kickoff.
