A country music venue is making its way to the Old City and plans to open later this year.
An Instagram account for Country Road − which doesn't include any posts − describes the venue coming to 300 W. Magnolia Ave. as a "honky tonk." The space was once home to Double S Wine Bar, which closed in 2024, and sits directly next to Parlor Doughnuts.
City Beer Board documents list the owner as Justin Mangelsdorf, who helped open nearby Alchemy Lounge and Cigar on South Central Street. Knox News did not immediately hear back from Mangelsdorf in time for publication.
Country Road, the only venue of its kind in the area, would be just a few blocks from the heart of the Old City.
The business would complement Cowboy Cantina, a western-themed bar that opened
in the neighborhood last fall. Co-owner Meleah Brown partnered with Knoxville developer Leigh Burch III, who is behind a handful of Old City nightlife hubs, to bring Cowboy Cantina to life.
We know of three more bars opening in the Old City, all of which are cocktail bars:
- House of Strays, coming to the former Postmodern Spirits space at 205 W. Jackson Ave., will have a performance focus that builds on owner A.J. Tierney's theater, production and bartending backgrounds.
- The Jaguar Roomis scheduled to open at the end of the summer in what used to be Riverside Tattoo Company, which moved to South Knoxville. Owner Tyler Measley's avant-garde cocktail bar will focus on "old-school Latin American" drinks with Japanese influence, he said, and the bar bites will have Cuban roots.
- The owners of Brother Wolf, Lilou Brasserie and Osteria Stella are bringinganother elevated cocktail bar to Knoxville that will replace Rala, a local gift shop that closed at the end of 2025.
