In a recent Senate hearing, Sen. Eric Schmitt embarrassed himself when he falsely accused special counsel Jack Smith of perjury, based on a mix-up involving Smith’s attendance at a sporting event. Schmitt’s mistake was that he focused on the wrong sporting event with ties to Jack Smith.
Schmitt should have been questioning the whereabouts on Sept. 26 of Senators Bill Hagerty and Marsha Blackburn, who were at Knoxville’s own Neyland Stadium with President Donald Trump at a Tennessee football game. Suspiciously, just several days later, Hagerty called for the disbarment of Jack Smith, and Blackburn filed a lawsuit against Smith. I imagine that both of these frivolous accusations by Hagerty and Blackburn will turn out as well for them as Schmitt’s
accusations did.
So Hagerty and Blackburn, who were both complicit in weaponizing our current Justice Department in voting to approve Trump’s personal lawyer Todd Blanche for Attorney General, are now accusing Smith of weaponization. Talk about "Pot-Kettle-Black(burn)."
Remember, Jack Smith, a non-partisan career prosecutor with an impeccable reputation, was appointed as an independent special counsel to investigate Trump by the Biden’s DOJ, to assure that there would be zero weaponization of the department. Trump, on the other hand, has targeted numerous perceived political enemies without appointing a single special counsel. Instead, Trump’s own attorney general and personal lawyer is directly heading the investigations, thus guaranteeing absolute and undeniable weaponization of the DOJ.
The actions by Hagerty and Blackburn have shown once again that they will never put the country or Tennessee above their own political careers and loyalty to Trump. Hopefully the voters will remember this come election time.
