While Alicent was plotting peace, Larys Strong was ensuring the war would continue. Convinced that Aegon's life was in danger from both Rhaenyra and his own brother Aemond, Larys smuggled the injured king out of the capital. Aegon's escape means Alicent's deal with Rhaenyra is built on a false promise; she can't deliver a city whose king is missing. This move keeps the Green's claim alive, even without a physical throne to sit on. Aegon's whereabouts are unknown, setting up a major mystery for Season 3 as he is poised to re-emerge when least expected.
The Black Queen's New Power
Rhaenyra Targaryen’s faction got a major power-up. The controversial 'Sowing of the Seeds' resulted in several new dragonriders, known as Dragonseeds, joining her cause. Addam, Hugh, and Ulf successfully claimed dragons, drastically tipping the scales of aerial power in favor of the Blacks. This influx of strength is compounded by Daemon Targaryen finally bending the knee and recommitting himself to her as queen after a series of prophetic visions. Aemond and Helaena's Grim Prophecy
With Aegon gone, Aemond is the de facto leader of the Greens in King's Landing, and he's more unhinged than ever. The realization that the Blacks now outnumber him in dragons has made him increasingly reckless. In a chilling confrontation, his sister, Queen Helaena, delivered a stunning prophecy. She told Aemond that Aegon would be king again, but Aemond himself would die, predicting he would be "swallowed up in the God's Eye." This aligns with the events of George R.R. Martin's book, "Fire & Blood," and sets Aemond on a dark and fatalistic path, believing his death is preordained.
Armies on the March
The Season 2 finale ended with a montage of every faction making its next move, setting the stage for a massive escalation of the conflict. The Hightower army, led by the yet-unseen Daeron Targaryen and his dragon Tessarion, is marching to reinforce the Greens. In the North, Cregan Stark's forces are finally moving south to support Rhaenyra. Meanwhile, Criston Cole and Aemond are leading an army into the Riverlands. The most immediate threat is the naval Battle of the Gullet, where Corlys Velaryon's fleet is set to clash with the Triarchy, who have allied with the Greens.
