The entire chaotic premise kicks off with an incident that is classic Super Troopers: part action, part absurdity. Thorny’s sister, Sarita, is driving when an aggressive driver runs her off the road, causing her car to burst into flames. Just when it looks
like the end, a hero emerges from the smoke to pull her from the wreckage. That hero is none other than Rod Farva. In the immediate aftermath of this dramatic rescue, Sarita is overcome with gratitude and admiration, and the two instantly fall for each other. Before anyone can process what's happening, they're engaged. For the rest of the troopers, it's a source of endless amusement. For Thorny, it’s the beginning of a nightmare.
A Brother's Worst Nightmare
Thorny's motivation isn't complicated; it's deeply personal and, to be fair, completely understandable to anyone who knows Farva. For years, Thorny and the other troopers have endured Farva’s obnoxious behavior, his pathological need for attention, and his complete disregard for social norms. He's the guy who orders a "liter of cola" and remains the most detestable member of the squad. Tolerating him as a coworker is one thing, but accepting him into the family is a bridge too far. The thought of Farva becoming his brother-in-law—a permanent fixture at holidays, birthdays, and every family gathering for the rest of his life—is simply more than Thorny can bear. Thorny launches a series of increasingly desperate schemes to expose Farva's true, boorish nature to Sarita and their conservative parents. First, he arranges a proper high tea, convinced that Farva will inevitably offend everyone. Instead, Farva manages to dress nicely and charm them. Next, Thorny concocts a plan for his father to witness Farva's unhinged behavior at the bachelor party.
