Dress the Part, But Be Smart
Camp Flog Gnaw is a spectacle of fashion, with attendees showing off vibrant, creative outfits. While you should absolutely express yourself, comfort is king. You’ll be on your feet for 10+ hours on the blacktop of the Dodger Stadium parking lot, so comfortable
shoes are non-negotiable. The festival takes place in the fall, and while Los Angeles days can be warm and sunny, it gets surprisingly chilly at night. A hoodie or jacket is essential. Many attendees rent a locker to store their evening layers, merch, or any prizes won at the carnival games.
Pack the Essentials (And Nothing More)
The bag policy is strict: clear bags (12”x6”x12” or smaller) are your best bet, though small, non-clear clutches (around 4.5”x6.5”) are also allowed. Your must-haves include a portable phone charger, as cell service can be spotty and drain your battery. Also pack non-aerosol sunscreen, a sealed pack of gum, and any necessary prescription medication that matches your government-issued photo ID. A reusable plastic water bottle is a lifesaver; there are refill stations, and staying hydrated is critical. Leave glass bottles, professional cameras, and umbrellas at home.
Mastering Your Arrival and Entry
Getting to Dodger Stadium can be chaotic. Parking is limited and must be purchased in advance, as it often sells out. The most recommended method is taking the free shuttle from Union Station, which runs frequently throughout the day. Be aware that rideshare drop-offs and pickups happen at designated lots, not the main stadium entrance, so you’ll still have some walking to do. Doors open at noon, and lines can be long, especially for those wanting to grab limited-edition merchandise before it sells out. Have your wristband on and your physical government-issued ID ready, as digital IDs are not accepted.
Navigating the Carnival Grounds
Camp Flog Gnaw is more than just stages; it’s a full-blown carnival. All the rides, from the Ferris wheel to swings, are free with your festival wristband. Carnival games, however, require a separate unlimited games pass (purchased in advance) or individual tickets bought on-site. The entire festival is cashless, so make sure your credit card or mobile pay is set up. Before you go, download the official festival app and screenshot the map and set times. Cell service is notoriously unreliable on the grounds, so having a plan—and a designated meetup spot for your crew—is crucial.
Embrace the Unwritten Rules
The vibe at Flog Gnaw is generally friendly and community-oriented. Pace yourself; it's a marathon, not a sprint. If you want a good spot for a headliner, you may need to get to that stage a couple of sets early. Don't be afraid to hang back, either—the sound is great from almost anywhere, and you'll have more room to breathe. Be mindful of others, especially in dense crowds, and if you see someone who looks dehydrated or needs help, alert a staff member. Finally, while it’s great to capture moments, don't experience the entire festival through your phone screen. Be present and enjoy the unique world Tyler, the Creator has built.
