What is the story about?

The paradox of choice is never more haunting than in October, when countless streaming services offer a graveyard of spooky titles. We've exorcised the decision-making demon to build a curated watchlist for your perfect Halloween night.

For the True Horror Aficionado

If you crave genuine, heart-pounding terror, 2026 has delivered. The must-see horror movie of the year is 'Obsession', a critically acclaimed indie hit about a wish gone horribly wrong, now streaming on Peacock. For fans of franchise horror, Max is the place

to be. 'Evil Dead Burn', the sixth installment in the iconic series, brings a fresh wave of Deadite chaos and is one of the most mean-spirited entries yet—in a good way. It joins a massive library of horror classics on the platform, including 'Hereditary' and 'Midsommar'.

For the Psychological Thriller Fan

For those who prefer scares that mess with your mind, Netflix has some top-tier options. 'It's What's Inside' is a playful but ingenious thriller about a college reunion where a body-swapping machine causes paranoia to spiral. Another strong choice is Guillermo del Toro's underrated gothic romance 'Crimson Peak', where a remote mansion holds ghostly and terrifying secrets for a new bride. Over on Hulu, the new release 'SOULM8TE' offers a tech-thriller spin on obsession, following an AI companion that becomes dangerously sentient.

For a Dose of Spooky Comedy

Halloween isn't just about screams; it's also about laughs. Hulu offers 'Send Help', a survival horror-comedy from director Sam Raimi where feuding coworkers must survive on a deserted island. Netflix delivers with the fan-favorite 'The Babysitter', a black comedy where a young boy discovers his beloved sitter is part of a demonic cult. You can also stream the sequel 'Ready or Not 2: Here I Come' on Hulu, which ups the ante with more families involved in the deadly game. And for a classic, you can't go wrong with 'Beetlejuice' on Max.

For a Family-Friendly Fright Night

If you have little monsters at home, there are plenty of slightly spooky options. Disney+ remains the champion of family-friendly Halloween, with classics like 'Hocus Pocus' and its sequel, 'The Nightmare Before Christmas', and 'Halloweentown'. On Netflix, 'The Curse of Bridge Hollow' stars Priah Ferguson ('Stranger Things') and Marlon Wayans in a fun adventure where Halloween decorations come to life. And for the youngest viewers, 'It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown' offers timeless, cozy Halloween charm.

For Fans of Classic Monsters and Slashers

Sometimes, only the classics will do. For a foundational slasher experience, the original 'The Texas Chainsaw Massacre' (1974) is available on both Netflix and Prime Video, a brutally effective film that still haunts audiences. Max is hosting legendary titles like 'The Exorcist' and 'A Nightmare on Elm Street'. Meanwhile, Netflix is streaming Alfred Hitchcock's masterpiece 'Psycho' and the 1980 slasher 'Friday the 13th'. These films laid the groundwork for modern horror and are essential viewing for any Halloween marathon.
