During this hiatus, Broken Lizard created other cult comedies like 'Club Dread' and 'Beerfest,' but the desire for more highway shenanigans never faded. Getting a sequel financed proved difficult, so the troupe turned to the very fans who made the original a classic. 2018: Older, Wiser, and Still Pranking
Released on April 20, 2018, 'Super Troopers 2' picked up years after the original. Fired from the force, the team is brought back for one last mission by their long-suffering Captain O'Hagan (Brian Cox). A land survey has revealed that a small Canadian town is actually on American soil, and the troopers are tasked with overseeing the transition. What follows is a culture clash filled with all the expected gags about metric systems, accents, and Mounties. The sequel was a direct love letter to the fans who funded it, packed with callbacks and the same irreverent humor that defined the first film, successfully bridging the 17-year gap and setting the stage for what was to come.
Right Meow: The Third Chapter Arrives
The timeline culminates in the summer of 2026. The third installment, officially released on August 7, 2026, completes the trilogy. Though for years it was rumored to be titled 'Super Troopers 3: Winter Soldiers,' the movie arrived with the on-screen title 'Super Troopers 3: Farva's Wedding.' The plot centers on the universally beloved (and-or-hated) Trooper Rod Farva getting engaged to Thorny's sister, a setup described by the creators as "'Meet the Parents' meets 'Super Troopers.'" While Thorny schemes to break up the chaotic union, the team must also investigate a new drug ring. The entire Broken Lizard team returned, along with familiar faces like Brian Cox and Marisa Coughlan, joined by new cast members including Chace Crawford. Filming began in 2025, with Searchlight Pictures distributing the film, now under the Disney umbrella.
