With companies reporting massive stock gains on the back of this AI momentum, it’s easy to connect the dots and assume that soaring CRM revenue is direct proof that truly autonomous AI has finally arrived and is working flawlessly. But this assumption mistakes savvy marketing for technological maturity.
Reality: Most 'AI' in CRMs Isn't Truly Agentic Yet

Third, and perhaps most importantly, is old-fashioned Fear of Missing Out (FOMO). With studies showing that a huge majority of companies plan to deploy agentic AI soon, business leaders feel immense pressure to invest in something to avoid falling behind. In this environment, they often turn to their trusted, incumbent CRM provider. Strong sales, therefore, are more a reflection of market dominance, clever packaging, and buyer anxiety than a pure referendum on AI effectiveness.
A Better Way to Judge AI: From Sales Hype to Real-World Impact
Instead of looking at a company's stock price, business leaders need a more practical scorecard for evaluating AI. The real test isn't what the vendor sold, but what the tool actually does. Forget the hype and ask specific, outcome-oriented questions. Does this AI reduce the number of manual steps in a critical workflow, or just speed up one task? Can it operate independently to achieve a complex goal? And what is the demonstrable return on investment beyond simple time savings? Success metrics should focus on business impact, such as pipeline velocity, conversion rate uplift, and customer retention—not just flashy adoption numbers. The most successful AI deployments are those where companies start with a clearly defined scope, ensure they have clean data for the AI to use, and build in human oversight before they scale. True AI success is measured in operational efficiency and better outcomes, not just impressive sales reports.
