While today’s smart glasses have AI features like real-time translation, the vision for Orion is far more ambitious. Imagine looking at a strange piece of fruit at the market and having the glasses instantly identify it and suggest recipes, or looking at a subway map and having your route highlighted in real time. Let's be honest: Meta has spent tens of billions on its Reality Labs division with little to show for it beyond a niche VR gaming market. The metaverse, as a fully-formed virtual world, still feels distant. These AR glasses represent a more practical, near-term bridge to Zuckerberg’s ultimate goal.
