The Punjab government on Saturday suspended Amritsar Vigilance SSP Lakhbir Singh following allegations of irregularities in the utilisation of development funds meant for Ranjit Avenue. A case has also been registered against social activist Mandeep Manna in connection with the alleged scam. The action follows an internal inquiry conducted by a senior officer, which flagged serious lapses and financial irregularities in the execution of development works in the area.According to official sources, funds released for infrastructure and development projects in Ranjit Avenue were allegedly misappropriated. The investigation reportedly found evidence pointing towards the involvement of the Vigilance SSP and the social activist, leading to the registration
of an FIR against both. The inquiry was ordered after complaints surfaced regarding the quality of work and suspected diversion of funds.Based on the findings of the senior-level probe, the government moved swiftly to suspend the officer and initiate legal proceedings.Officials said further investigation is underway to ascertain the extent of the financial irregularities and identify other possible beneficiaries in the case.
