Minister Narendra Modi was on Sunday conferred the 'Guardian of the Blue Horizon', Seychelles' highest honour for leadership in environmental conservation and sustainable development, during his three-day State Visit to the island nation.The award recognises Modi's contribution to climate action, sustainable development, the Blue Economy and international cooperation. It was presented as Seychelles celebrates the Golden Jubilee of its National Day, with the Indian Prime Minister attending the celebrations as the Guest of Honour at the invitation of President Dr Patrick Herminie.
The latest recognition adds to a growing list of international honours bestowed on the Prime Minister for his work on environmental sustainability and global development.
Recognition For Green Vision
According to the official citation, the award acknowledges Modi's sustained efforts to promote climate resilience, responsible use of ocean resources and sustainable economic growth. It also reflects the growing strategic partnership between India and Seychelles in the Indian Ocean region.Addressing the occasion, PM Modi outlined India's vision for the Indian Ocean, stressing that the region should become an "Ocean of Opportunity.""My visit to Seychelles carries a clear message. India envisions an Indian Ocean where maritime security goes hand in hand with economic prosperity; where partnerships are built not on size, but on mutual respect and trust; and where every nation moves forward together," he said.
India-Seychelles Ties Get Strategic Push
During the visit, India and Seychelles further strengthened their maritime partnership. PM Modi handed over the Made-in-India Fast Patrol Vessel PS LESPWAR to Seychelles, reaffirming India's commitment to enhancing the island nation's maritime security capabilities and defence cooperation in the Indian Ocean.Modi is also scheduled to hold bilateral talks with President Herminie, address the Seychelles National Assembly and participate in the country's 50th National Day celebrations, where an Indian Army contingent is taking part in the ceremonial parade.
Latest In A Series Of Global Honours
The Seychelles honour follows several major international recognitions received by PM Modi in recent years.In May 2026, the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) presented him with the Agricola Medal for contributions to food security, agricultural transformation and sustainable farming.Earlier, he received the Seoul Peace Prize in 2018 for promoting inclusive economic growth and global cooperation. The same year, the United Nations honoured him with the Champions of the Earth Award, recognising his leadership in advancing climate action and environmental protection.
