people were seriously injured after being hit by a suburban train near Sandhurst Road railway station in south Mumbai on Thursday evening. The incident took place at around 7 PM, shortly after suburban services on the Central Railway were briefly disrupted by a flash strike by employees protesting against an FIR filed over a previous train accident in Mumbra.According to railway officials, three women and one man were walking on the tracks after getting off a train from the wrong side when they were struck. “The victims sustained serious injuries and were immediately taken to a nearby hospital,” a railway spokesperson said.
Strike over Mumbra accident case
Earlier in the evening, unions representing Central Railway employees halted suburban train operations at the busy Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) to protest against the registration of a police case against two railway engineers. Train services were stopped between 5:50 PM and 6:45 PM, affecting thousands of commuters during rush hour.The Thane railway police had filed an FIR against a senior section engineer and a section engineer under Section 125(a)(b) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for “acts endangering life or personal safety of others” in connection with the June 9 Mumbra accident.That accident claimed four lives when two trains, one heading toward Kasara and another bound for CSMT, crossed each other on a sharp curve. Some passengers standing on the footboard reportedly fell onto the tracks after their backpacks brushed against each other, according to police.Services resume after assurances
Central Railway’s Chief Public Relations Officer Swapnil Nila told PTI the employees at CSMT refused to allow motormen and train managers to operate services until senior officials intervened.
