SIR Deadline Extended: EC Revises Last Date For Voter Rolls Revision For All States

Election Commission of India has announced a revised Schedule, extending the relevant dates by one week for the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of Electoral Rolls in 12 States/UTs. The final publication of the revised electoral roll will be on February 14, 2026.The revised date comes after the EC rolled out the second phase of the SIR excercise to update the electoral roll or voters list in several states including West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan among others. The exercise involves filling out of an enumeration form that are being distributed door-to-door by the BLOs. However, apart from filling up the form offline, citizens can also complete the filing of the enumeration form online.

The Election Commission conducted this exercise successfully in the state of Bihar ahead of the recently concluded Assembly elections amid much controversy. The poll body has clarified that the primary objective is to ensure that no eligible voter is left out of the electoral process, remove duplicate or illegal entries, and verify existing voters.(This is a developing story)
