In the wake of the shooting of two National Guard members near the White House in Washington DC, US President Donald Trump has announced a crackdown on immigration. The Trump administration said that it will
re-examine all Green Card holders from "every country of concern." Two West Virginia National Guard members were shot on Wednesday afternoon just blocks from the White House. The suspect was identified as Rahmanullah Lakanwal, an Afghan national, who reportedly arrived in the US from Afghanistan during Operation Allies Welcome. Under the initiative, the US had helped Afghan individuals flee the country in 2021 after the fall of Kabul.
US To Re-Examine Green Card Holders From Countries of Concern
US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) Director Joseph Edlow said that President Donald Trump has "directed a full scale, rigorous re-examination of every Green Card for every alien from every country of concern." The policy guidance is effective immediately and applies to requests pending or filed on or after November 27, 2025."The protection of this country and of the American people remains paramount, and the American people will not bear the cost of the prior administration’s reckless resettlement policies," Edlow said in a post on X.
US Crackdown on Migration - Will Indians Be Affected?
The policy is applicable on individuals hailing from 'country of concern.' These countries are Afghanistan, Myanmar, Burundi, Chad, Republic of the Congo, Cuba, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Haiti, Iran, Laos, Libya, Sierra Leone, Somalia, Sudan, Togo, Turkmenistan, Venezuela and Yemen.The move will have no impact on Indians as it is not named as a 'country of concern' among the 19 countries. The countries named above are the same countries that were subject to a travel ban announced by Trump in a proclamation issued in June this year, reported PTI.The proclamation ‘Restricting the Entry of Foreign Nationals to Protect the United States from Foreign Terrorists and Other National Security and Public Safety Threats' restricted and limited the entry of nationals of these into the US and applied to both immigrants and non-immigrants.

In a fresh announcement on Friday, Trump announced that his administration will “permanently pause migration from all ‘Third World Countries’,” arguing the move is needed so the US system can “fully recover.” READ MORE -
