Lucknow, 15 January: Under the leadership of CM Yogi Adityanath, the state broke free from the foodgrain crisis, black marketing and chaos that prevailed before 2017. Within around nine years, farmers
moved decisively on the path of prosperity. The impact of the CM Yogi Model is evident in the fact that Uttar Pradesh, which has only 10 percent of the country’s total agricultural land, now contributes 21 percent to national foodgrain production. Before 2017, the growth rate of the agricultural sector was stuck in single digits, but under the Yogi government, the growth rate of agriculture and allied sectors has exceeded 14 percent over the last three years.UP farmers have truly reached from “Khet se Khushhali.” With the policies of the double-engine government, agriculture in Uttar Pradesh has entered a new era of productivity. The government’s vision and policies regarding agriculture transformed a scenario where farmers once felt marginalized. Whether it was the decision taken immediately after assuming power in 2017 to waive farmer’s loans worth ₹36,000 crore, or the first ever “Lab to Land” Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan, under which scientists directly engaged with 23.30 lakh farmers across 14,170 villages of Uttar Pradesh, the Yogi era redefined farming. Agriculture is no longer just a means of livelihood but has become the axis of development.By prioritizing agriculture and ensuring transparent systems, the face of Uttar Pradesh changed within nine years. The agricultural framework did not remain confined to schemes alone, but became a medium for real transformation on the ground. Farmers who once struggled with debt, irrigation and delayed payments were brought to the center of government priorities. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath made it clear upon assuming office that farmers are not merely a vote bank, but the backbone of the state’s economy. With this approach, several reforms were initiated in the agricultural sector. Crop procurement at Minimum Support Price became transparent. Payment systems were made time bound. Farmers began receiving fair prices for their produce. Expansion of irrigation facilities made farmers self reliant. Revival of canals, an increase in the number of tube wells and free or concessional irrigation schemes enhanced production capacity. Even in drought prone and water stressed regions, agriculture began to breathe again. In the Uttar Pradesh where farmers were once driven to suicide before 2017, respect for farmers became a reality after 2017. Under the guidance of PM Modi, farmers started receiving Samman Nidhi with a single click, with Uttar Pradesh playing a leading role. Up to the release of the 21st installment of Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi, farmers of Uttar Pradesh have received payments totaling ₹94,668.58 crore. More than two crore farmers were connected with modern techniques and advanced farming through Kisan Pathshala. Through the LDB operated under cooperatives, farmers earlier received loans at an interest rate of 11.5 percent, which will now be available at 6 percent. Land has been identified for key agricultural institutions, including a Seed Park in Atari, Lucknow, in memory of Bharat Ratna Chaudhary Charan Singh, 31 acres of land in Barabanki for a Tissue Culture Lab, and seven acres in Pilibhit for the establishment of a Basmati production and training center. The Yogi government took historic decisions in the interest of sugarcane farmers. For the crushing season 2025-26, sugarcane prices were increased by ₹30 per quintal. The price of early maturing sugarcane varieties was fixed at ₹400 per quintal, while the price of general varieties was fixed at ₹390 per quintal. This increase will result in an additional payment of approximately ₹3,000 crore to sugarcane farmers. During the Yogi government’s tenure, sugarcane prices have been increased for the fourth time. This decision will not only enhance farmer’s income but will also inject new energy into the rural economy of the state. Since 2017, a record sugarcane payment exceeding ₹2.96 lakh crore has been made. The government focused not only on traditional farming but also emphasized technology and innovation. Through Soil Health Cards, improved seeds, agricultural mechanization and digital platforms, farmers were connected to modern agriculture. Through the policies, the Yogi government conveyed a clear message that farming is not a loss making activity but the most respectable means of livelihood. As a result, Uttar Pradesh is now counted among the leading states in agricultural production, procurement and implementation of farmer welfare schemes. During the tenure of the Yogi government, agriculture in Uttar Pradesh has emerged as a story of trust, stability and hope for the future. Farmers no longer feel alone, because they know that the government stands with them at every step.
