Baripada: A shocking incident from Odisha's Baripada has raised serious questions about the state of healthcare services in government hospitals. A 75-year-old woman was allegedly forced to rely on her son's shoulders after hospital staff reportedly failed to provide a wheelchair or stretcher for a medical scan.The incident occurred at PRM Medical College and Hospital and has triggered widespread criticism over the lack of basic patient care. The elderly woman, identified as Damimani Patra from Shalabani village in Mayurbhanj district, was admitted to the Medicine Ward after suffering from fever.When her condition failed to improve, doctors advised a chest scan for further diagnosis. According to family members, they repeatedly requested hospital authorities
to provide a stretcher or wheelchair to take the patient to the scanning centre.However, despite several appeals, no assistance was reportedly provided. Relatives alleged that even though such facilities were available in the hospital, staff members failed to respond to their requests.Left with no alternative, family members attempted to help the elderly woman walk to the scanning centre. But due to her deteriorating condition, she was unable to continue.In a heartbreaking scene, her son Dhaneswar Patra lifted his mother onto his shoulders and carried her to the scanning centre himself.
