Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday described as a decade of rapid infrastructure growth in Assam, stating that improved connectivity and development initiatives have changed the pace of life in the region. Addressing party workers in Guwahati, the Prime Minister said that crossing the Brahmaputra River was once a major challenge but new infrastructure has made travel easier and faster, connecting people from main Guwahati city to North Guwahati in the state.He said that during the tenure of the Congress built only three bridges over the Brahmaputra, while in the last ten years five major bridges have been completed under the Bharatiya Janata Party led government. He described the present administration as a double engine government and said the results
are visible in the form of large scale infrastructure expansion. The Prime Minister also referred to the newly inaugurated Kumar Bhaskar Varma Setu, named after the ancient king Kumar Bhaskar Barman, calling it a milestone project that reflects both development and respect for heritage and culture. He said the six lane bridge would benefit all sections of society and further accelerate Guwahati's growth.
Highlighting future plans, he noted that several other bridges and projects are under construction and once completed they will bring major infrastructure advancement across Assam and the wider Northeast. Recalling earlier decades, Modi said bandhs protests and unrest were once frequent in the state and often disrupted normal life and travel. He added that Assam had witnessed periods of violence and instability but is now moving steadily on the path of peace and development.
