New Delhi: Stressing that sustainable development must remain at the heart of India's growth story, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Tuesday said environmental responsibility is not merely a policy objective but a collective duty owed to future generations.Addressing the Times Network Sustainability Conclave 2026, Yadav said India has chosen a path where economic progress and environmental conservation go hand in hand under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
"Today, sustainable development is not merely a policy objective; it is our collective responsibility towards all generations," the chief minister said.He called for governments, businesses, educational institutions and society to work together to develop solutions that strike the right balance between development and environmental protection.Highlighting the Centre's sustainability initiatives, Yadav said programmes such as Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment) have transformed environmental conservation into a people's movement by encouraging citizens to adopt eco-friendly practices in their daily lives.The chief minister also referred to the 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' campaign, saying the initiative has received widespread public participation and has strengthened India's afforestation efforts.Showcasing Madhya Pradesh's efforts, Yadav said the state has made significant strides in water conservation over the past three years through the creation of more than five lakh wells, ponds and other water conservation structures. He added that the expansion of solar parks and promotion of clean energy have further reinforced the state's commitment to sustainable development."The green economy, circular economy and water conservation are shaping the future," he said, expressing confidence that India would continue to emerge as a global leader in sustainability and climate action.Congratulating Times Network for organising the Sustainability Conclave, Yadav said the platform had brought together policymakers, entrepreneurs and experts to deliberate on one of the most pressing challenges facing the world.He expressed hope that the discussions at the conclave would generate meaningful ideas and practical solutions that would benefit not only India but also the global community.
