George, was held in New Delhi on Friday amid intense discussions over the formation of the new government in Karnataka. Visuals coming in from the national capital showed the top Congress leadership engaged in a series of informal interactions, including a lunch meeting, as the power dynamics within the party continue to play out behind closed doors.
The Delhi huddle comes a day after emotional scenes unfolded in Bengaluru, where DK Shivakumar was seen embracing Siddaramaiah and even touching his feet. The leader is a strong contender for the Chief Minister's post.While breakfast meetings and late-night discussions have become common in Karnataka Congress politics, Friday’s lunch meeting has once again highlighted the delicate balancing act the party leadership is attempting as it works to finalise the contours of the new government.
CLP meeting soon
Meanwhile, Shivakumar also met Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge in New Delhi and sought his blessings by touching his feet. Congress MPs and MLAs from Karnataka also met Shivakumar in New Delhi on Friday and held consultations with him.Shivakumar on Friday said no decision had yet been taken regarding the formation of the new Cabinet in the state, adding that a Congress Legislative Party (CLP) meeting had been convened for Saturday. Speaking to reporters in New Delhi, he said discussions with the Congress high command were still underway, and all party MLAs had been asked to remain present in Bengaluru for the meeting.The developments come after Siddaramaiah resigned from the Chief Minister's position on Thursday.
