Two men in Karnataka's Devangare district allegedly died by suicide after a woman reportedly eloped with her lover. The deceased include the woman's husband, Harish, 30, and Rudresh, 36, a relative who
arranged their marriage. The police have now arrested the woman, Saraswati, in connection with the case.
What Happened?
The police said a missing person complaint had earlier been registered after the woman left home, and officers had contacted and spoken to those concerned. Preliminary investigation revealed that the woman had been in a prior relationship, which allegedly led to mental distress for her husband, who had reportedly persuaded her family to marry her. The situation further caused distress to a family member who had arranged the marriage.

Death Note Found
Moreover, the police have recovered a death note and are currently examining it. An investigation has been initiated under the supervision of the Deputy SP of Davangere Rural sub-division, the SP said.Uma Prashant, SP Davangere, said, “In connection with this, two cases have been registered under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act within the jurisdiction of Davangere Rural Police Station. As you are aware, two people died in the case yesterday, and it was found that they had died by suicide. Complaints have been filed from both sides in this regard."

Husband, Relative Stressed By Woman's Act
"It has come to light that earlier she was already in a relationship with someone else. Because of this, her husband became upset. Her uncle was also in distress as he was convinced and married her. As a result of this emotional distress, both Harish and Rudresh became mentally upset and died by suicide." Davangere Superintendent of Police Uma Prashant said two cases have been registered under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act and confirmed that both deaths were suicides.
