In a milestone achievement that cements India’s mountaineering prowess, an Indian Army expedition team from the Eastern Command has successfully scaled Mount Kangto (7,042 m), the highest and previously unconquered peak of Arunachal Pradesh. This marks the first recorded ascent of the formidable mountain, long considered an untouched sentinel of the Kameng Himalayas.The team was formally flagged in by Lt Gen RC Tiwari, Army Commander, Eastern Command, who praised the climbers for their exceptional courage, professionalism, and unwavering determination.Flagged off on 3 November 2025 from a forward base by the General Officer Commanding, Gajraj Corps, the 18-member contingent embarked on a demanding journey through some of the most hostile terrain
in the Eastern Himalayas.Battling extremely rarefied air, sub-zero temperatures, treacherous crevasses, steep ice walls and knife-edge ridge lines, the team demonstrated the finest qualities of the Indian Army grit, discipline, teamwork, and an unconquerable spirit.Approaching the peak from the challenging southern route, the mountaineers achieved what had remained elusive for decades.Their historic ascent not only honours the majestic Himalayan landscape but also stands as a testament to the Indian Army’s commitment to pushing human endurance and operational excellence to new frontiers.Indeed, Nothing is Impossible for the Indian Army.
