The
Election Commission of India (ECI) on Friday (May 1) ordered repolling in 15 booths of West Bengal on May 2 (tomorrow, Saturday). According to the Election Commission, the repolling will be held on 11 booths of Magrahat Paschim Assembly constituency and 4 booths of Diamond Harbour Assembly constituency in South 24 Parganas. The voting in these seats was held in the second phase of Bengal assembly election on April 29.
Voting Time During Repoll in 15 Booths
In a letter to the Chief Electoral Officer of Bengal, the Election Commission (EC) said the repolling has been ordered based on inputs received from the state poll machinery and voting will be held from 7 am to 6 pm. While 11 polling stations are in the Magarhat Paschim assembly constituency, four are in Diamond Harbour.A report about complaints relating to the Falta constituency is awaited. A large number of complaints was received from the constituency.This is the first time that repolling has been ordered in the present set of assembly polls in West Bengal, Assam, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Puducherry. No repolling was recommended in the first phase of the West Bengal polls held on April 23.

What Election Commission Repoll Order Said
The Election Commission in its letter to the West Bengal Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Manoj Kumar Agarwal, said, "I am directed to state that on the basis of reports received from the concerned Returning Officers and the Observers of 142-Magrahat Paschim AC and 143-Diamond Harbour AC regarding poll taken for General Election to the Legislative Assembly of West Bengal, 2026, held on April 29, 2026 and after taking all material circumstances into account, the Commission hereby declares that the poll taken on April 29, 2026 for the aforesaid election at the following polling stations to be void and appoints May 2, 2026 as the date for taking fresh poll.""I am further to state that widest possible publicity should be given by beating of drums, etc in polling area and contesting candidates should be informed in writing about the fresh poll being taken on the said date," the Poll Body order reads.Manoj Kumar Agarwal also informed poll officials to kindly inform the Returning Officer/Observer concerned most urgently and instruct them to act accordingly under intimation to the Commission.West Bengal Assembly Elections 2026 were held in two phases. The first phase was held on April 23 across 152 seats, while the second round of voting took place in 142 constituencies on April 29. The state has recorded its highest ever voter turnout ever of 93.19 per cent and 91.66 per cent, respectively in both the phases. The counting of votes is set to take place on May 4.
