A new high-performance cricket facilities in Pune is set to further bolster Maharashtra’s cricket ecosystem. The Punit Balan Cricket Academy in Vadgaon and Lonavala is positioned as one of India’s largest
private cricket development setups, aimed at giving emerging players access to professional-grade infrastructure.The initiative involves two full-size grounds located at Vadgaon (Sinhgad College) and Lonavala, both being upgraded to enable recognised domestic competitions.With the recent World Cup victory acting as a breakthrough moment for women's cricket in India, these facilities aim to have dedicated batches planned at concessional fees for budding female cricket stars. Powered with state-of-the-art facilities, the academy also ensures uninterrupted training, especially during the monsoon with incorporated indoor nets, alongside sports science support, conditioning facilities and residential accommodation for outstation athletes. Such features are expected to benefit first-generation players who often struggle with access to professional setups."The academy has been established to offer world-class training to emerging and talented players. Through expert coaching and top-tier facilities, we hope to see young cricketers shine on major platforms while also bringing glory to Maharashtra," chairman Punit Balan said."The academy not only aims to promote women's cricket at this crucial juncture of the sport but also make such top-class facilities available in non-traditional cricket centres," he added.
