The
National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has taken suo motu cognisance of media reports concerning an explosion at a chemical factory in Haryana’s Rewari district that left one worker dead and several injured. The incident occurred on May 19 while repair work was reportedly underway at the factory’s chilling plant, triggering an explosion and subsequent fire.According to the NHRC, six people sustained injuries in the blast, while one worker succumbed to injuries during treatment at a hospital on May 20. The skeletal remains of two other workers were later recovered from the factory premises.
The Commission observed that if the reported facts are true, the case raises a serious issue involving violation of the human rights of the victims.Taking note of the incident, the NHRC has issued notices to the Haryana Chief Secretary and the Superintendent of Police in Rewari, seeking a detailed report within two weeks. The Commission has asked authorities to provide updates on the condition of the injured and details regarding compensation, if any, extended to the families of those killed or injured.Media reports cited by the NHRC said the factory manufactures chemical products, industrial inks and aluminium foil for domestic and international markets.

A massive fire triggered multiple explosions at a chemical manufacturing unit in Rewari district's Bawal industrial area on May 19 forcing evacuation of nearly 300 employees.The blaze erupted around 12.30 pm at the factory in Sector 5 and spread rapidly through the unit, with repeated explosions heard from a considerable distance. Officials said inflammable chemicals stored inside the factory intensified the fire.Thick black smoke and flames rising from the unit were reportedly visible from nearly 10km away, triggering panic in the area as workers rushed out of the premises.
