In a striking display of India’s evolving battlefield prowess, the Indian Army’s Southern Command conducted Exercise Maru Jwala in the rugged expanse of the Thar Desert, underscoring its capability to
wage multi-domain operations under realistic war conditions. The exercise formed the concluding phase of the Tri-Service Exercise Trishul, bringing together the might of the Indian Army and Indian Air Force in a joint combat environment. For the past two months, the Sudarshan Chakra Corps, Southern Command’s elite Strike Formation had been intensively training in desert warfare tactics and integrated operations. The culmination, marked by Exercise Maru Jwala, showcased the Corps’ rapid mobility, lethal precision, and seamless coordination among diverse combat arms and supporting formations.Lieutenant General Dhiraj Seth, PVSM, AVSM, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Southern Command, reviewed the final phase and lauded the participating troops for their dedication and combat readiness. “The professionalism and endurance displayed by the Sudarshan Chakra Corps reflect the Army’s preparedness for future challenges. Their ability to operate with agility, innovate under pressure, and integrate advanced technology into combat drills highlights our transition towards a modern, self-reliant force,” he said while addressing the soldiers. The large-scale field exercise validated new-generation Tactics, Techniques and Procedures (TTPs) integrating indigenous systems including surveillance drones, counter-drone platforms, and advanced electronic warfare tools. The participating elements included the Shahbaz Division, Aviation Brigade, Electronic Warfare Brigade, and Para (Special Forces) battalions, all executing synchronized manoeuvres in a simulated high-intensity conflict scenario. One of the most dynamic highlights of Exercise Maru Jwala was a precision airborne operation conducted jointly by the Indian Army and the Indian Air Force. This demonstrated the forces’ exceptional coordination, interoperability, and ability to project power deep into contested zones.Lt Gen Seth emphasized that the Indian Army’s focus on innovation, integration, and indigenisation in line with the Atmanirbhar Bharat vision continues to shape its operational philosophy. He commended all ranks of the Southern Command and the Sudarshan Chakra Corps for embodying the spirit of adaptability and resilience. The Maru Jwala exercise reaffirmed that India’s strike formations remain battle-hardened, technologically empowered, and as Lt Gen Seth aptly described “Forged in Fire, Ready for the Future.”
