The
death of 31-year-old Twisha Sharma in Bhopal has spiralled into a high-profile and deeply contested investigation, with the case now revolving around alleged lapses in the post-mortem process, emotional WhatsApp chats sent before her death and sharply conflicting claims made by her family and in-laws. Twisha, a former Miss Pune, actor and marketing professional from Noida, was found hanging at her matrimonial home in Bhopal’s Katara Hills area on May 12, barely five months after marrying lawyerSamarth Singh. While police initially treated the case as a suicide, her family has alleged murder, dowry harassment and destruction of evidence, claiming she had been subjected to prolonged mental and physical abuse.
Missing Evidence in Her Post-mortem, Anxious Texts And The Drug Claims
The controversy intensified after it emerged that the ligature material allegedly used in the hanging was not submitted during the initial post-mortem examination, despite being a mandatory forensic requirement. The report also mentioned
“multiple antemortem injuries” on her body, further fuelling suspicion and demands for a second autopsy. At the same time, WhatsApp messages allegedly sent by Twisha to friends and family shortly before her death have surfaced, in which she described herself as “trapped”, anxious, and emotionally distressed. Her family claims the chats reveal the extent of harassment she faced inside her matrimonial home.
Court records cited WhatsApp chats allegedly sent by Twisha to her family shortly before her death. In one message dated May 9, she purportedly wrote, “Maa aap mujhe yaha se lene aa jao kal please.” Another message allegedly described her life as “narak” and claimed her husband was no longer speaking to her.The prosecution further stated that Twisha made several distressed phone calls to her family members on the night of May 12 before contact was lost around 10.35 pm.
The accused family, however, has strongly denied the allegations and, through court filings, claimed that Twisha was battling emotional instability, drug dependency and psychiatric issues. The defence has also questioned the authenticity of the WhatsApp chats and denied allegations of dowry harassment. With Samarth Singh absconding, his anticipatory bail plea rejected and an SIT probing the case, the investigation has now become centred on forensic findings, digital evidence and the competing narratives presented by both sides.
