A massive hailstorm struck the Lolab valley in Kupwara, blanketing roads with almost two inches of hail and hampering traffic movement. The weather event caused extensive damage to crops and orchards, as the India Metereological Department (IMD) issued an alert predicting additional thunderstorms and hailstorms in several parts of Kashmir over the next two days.Notably, there have been unusual weather conditions in Kashmir over the past few weeks. In a tragic incident, a lightning strike hit two young boys in Chandigam Lolab. The deceased has been identified as Aabid Rahim, while another youth, Faizaan Ahmad, was injured and is undergoing treatment at GMC Handwara.Dramatic visuals of the hailstorm disrupting normal life in the Lolab Valley also
surfaced online. Traffic movement was also disrupted as the white layer of hail covered roads in the area. As per the IMD, the Western Disturbance as a cyclonic circulation is likely to prevail over Jammu and neighbourhood in lower tropospheric levels. Meanwhile, a fresh Western Disturbance is likely to affect Northwest India from May 28.
