Supreme Court Takes Up Twisha Sharma Death Case, CJI Bench to Hear Matter on May 25

Supreme Court, headed by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant, has taken up the case of Twisha Sharma, who allegedly died due to dowry harassment by her husband and in-laws in her Bhopal house. The court has taken suo motu cognisance of the horrific case. The Chief Justice of India will hear the matter on Monday (May 25). Along with Chief Justice Kant, the bench will have Justice Joymalya Bagchi and Justice Vipul M Pancholi. The court has listed the case under the title, "Alleged institutional bias and procedural discrepancies in the unnatural death of a young girl at her matrimonial home".

Twisha Sharma Dowry Death Case

Twisha, who hailed from Noida, was found dead at her in-laws’ residence under circumstances that remain under investigation. While her husband’s family has alleged that she was struggling with drug addiction, Twisha’s parents have firmly denied the claims and accused her in-laws of harassing her over dowry demands.The body of actor-model Twisha Sharma remains at the mortuary of AIIMS Bhopal as legal and forensic procedures in the case continue. A team of 4 senior doctors from AIIMS, Delhi, has arrived in Bhopal to begin the second autopsy of Twisha Sharma's body. The directive came after Twisha’s family questioned the findings of the initial postmortem and demanded an independent forensic examination.

Accused Husband Samarth Singh Taken Into Custody

Madhya Pradesh's Bhopal court has sent accused Samarth Singh to a seven-day police remand in the Twisha Sharma death case. The remand followed a day after he was arrested. Samarth Singh was absconding for over a week following her wife's death. Singh was brought to Bhopal in the early hours of Saturday when he tried to surrender. Speaking to reporters, advocate Ankur Pandey, counsel for Twisha's family, said, "The police got 7 days' custody of accused (Samarth Singh). There were proceedings regarding the passport. His lawyer submitted the accused's passport today. There are three other pending applications which we had filed for preservation, the date for which is the 29th."Explaining the arrest, Bhopal Commissioner of Police Sanjay Kumar said Samarth Singh had attempted to surrender before a court in Jabalpur, but police took him into custody after the court refused to allow the surrender.
