The incident occurred midstream near Kachuberia, disrupting river traffic and raising environmental concerns. According to administrative sources, the vessel—identified as MV Tamjeed Nasir—had departed from Kolkata Port and was en route to Bangladesh carrying commercial goods. Preliminary investigations indicate that the ship’s engine developed a sudden fault, causing the vessel to lose control amid strong river currents.Officials said cracks soon appeared in the lower portion of the ship, allowing water to rapidly flood in.
