St. Kitts and Nevis is a two-island sovereign nation in the eastern Caribbean Sea. As the smallest country in the Western Hemisphere, it is known for its volcanic, mountainous terrain, lush rainforests, and white/black sand beaches. With a population of roughly 53,000 and Basseterre as its capital, the nation thrives on tourism and a renowned Citizenship by Investment program. The islands are separated by a shallow channel known as "The Narrows". St. Kitts features the dormant Mount Liamuiga volcano, while Nevis is known for its quiet, verdant atmosphere. It is a sovereign democratic state within the Commonwealth, with King Charles III as its head of state, represented by a Governor-General.Saint Kitts and Nevis were among the first islands in the Caribbean to be colonised by Europeans. Saint Kitts was home to the first British and French Caribbean colonies, and thus has also been titled "The Mother Colony of the West Indies". It is also the most recent British territory in the Caribbean to become independent, gaining independence in 1983.
