Changlang (Arunachal Pradesh): A Company Operating Base (COB) at Ranglum in Arunachal Pradesh’s Changlang district came under stand-off fire early Monday morning, prompting a strong and coordinated retaliation by security forces deployed in the area.According to official sources, the incident took place at around 8:45 am when armed anti-national elements opened fire from two different directions at the COB Ranglum, situated opposite Border Pillar-168 along the Indo-Myanmar border. The security personnel stationed at the base responded swiftly and effectively, forcing the attackers to retreat into nearby forested areas.Officials confirmed that no casualties were reported in the incident, either among the security forces or civilians. Following
the attack, additional security columns operating in nearby locations were immediately alerted, and reinforcement troops were staged forward as a precautionary measure to prevent any escalation.Security forces have since launched extensive cordon-and-search operations in the surrounding areas to track down and neutralise the armed elements involved in the firing. Combing operations are being carried out in dense forest patches and suspected hideouts to ensure that no further threat remains.Senior officials stated that the attack appears to be a stand-off firing, a tactic often used by insurgent groups operating in border areas to test the alertness of security installations. The region, which shares a porous international boundary, has witnessed sporadic incidents in the past, prompting heightened surveillance and intelligence-based operations.Authorities have assured that the overall security situation remains under control, and additional vigilance has been imposed across sensitive locations in Changlang district. Local administration has been advised to maintain close coordination with security agencies to ensure public safety.Meanwhile, intelligence agencies are analysing inputs to ascertain the identity and movement of the attackers. Security forces remain on high alert as operations continue to maintain peace and stability in the border district.
