A sub-inspector was arrested late on Wednesday after a dramatic incident at Lucknow’s Hazratganj Chowk, where he attempted to run over a fellow officer and argued with senior police officials over traffic
diversion. The incident unfolded when Sub-Inspector Amit Jaiswal, stationed at Barabanki Police Lines, was asked by a colleague at Hazratganj Chowk to divert his car as part of traffic management efforts. According to Times Now sources, instead of complying, Jaiswal reportedly drove his vehicle onto the barricades set up for the diversion, ignoring the officer’s instructions.

When the Hazratganj Chowk officer attempted to stop the vehicle, Jaiswal allegedly tried to run over him. The situation escalated further when Jaiswal engaged in a heated argument with DCP Traffic Kamlesh Dixit, who was present at the scene. According to eyewitnesses, Dixit reprimanded Jaiswal for his actions before ordering his arrest.Following the reprimand, the accused was taken into custody by local police and placed in a police jeep before being transported to Hazratganj Police Station. Sources confirmed that liquor bottles were found in Jaiswal’s vehicle, prompting the authorities to conduct a medical examination to determine whether he was under the influence at the time of the incident.A video of the confrontation has since gone viral on social media, showing the chaotic scene at the busy chowk. The incident has raised questions about the conduct of police officers and the possible involvement of alcohol in an official’s behavior while on duty.At the Hazratganj Police Station, Jaiswal was placed in the lockup, where he remained until his release.
