Indian Air Force AN-32 Aircraft Crashes At Jorhat Air Base In Assam, Pilot Feared Dead

AN-32 transport aircraft of the Indian Air Force met with an accident while landing at the Jorhat Air Force Station in Assam on Saturday (June 13), the IAF said in a brief statement. The exact number of personnel on board and their condition are yet to be officially confirmed.

"A military aircraft crashed at the Air Force Station in Jorhat, Assam, during landing. The aircraft involved was an AN-31 cargo plane used for transporting supplies. The accident occurred while the aircraft was attempting to land at the airbase. There are fears that the pilot may have lost his life in the crash. Further details are awaited as rescue and investigation efforts continue at the site," the Air Force said.Rescue teams, including Air Force personnel and local emergency services, rushed to the crash site and have launched ongoing operations to assess the situation, secure the area, and provide medical assistance.

However, this is not the first time that the AN-32 aircraft has been involved in an aviation accident. According to PIB, on June 3, 2019, an IAF AN-32 transport aircraft carrying 13 personnel, including eight aircrew and five passengers, took off from Jorhat Air Force Station in Assam for Mechuka Advanced Landing Ground in Arunachal Pradesh.The aircraft lost contact shortly after take-off and failed to reach its destination, triggering a massive search operation involving the Indian Air Force, Indian Army, Indian Navy, ISRO and various civil agencies. After eight days of intensive aerial and ground searches across difficult mountainous terrain and dense forests, the wreckage was located on June 11, 2019, near Lipo in Arunachal Pradesh at an altitude of around 12,000 feet.Rescue teams reached the crash site on June 13, but found no survivors. All 13 personnel on board lost their lives.
