Legendary playback singer Asha Bhosle, who defined generations of Indian music with her versatile voice, died in Mumbai on Sunday at the age of 92. President Droupadi Murmu, Vice President C P Radhakrishnan, and leaders across political spectrum have poured rich tributes for the music icon who defined "an era of music". Condoling her demise, President Droupadi Murmu said, "The passing of Asha Bhosle Ji has created a huge void in the world of music. Her legendary career as an iconic singer has defined an era of music in India.""She led her life on her own terms as an artist and as an individual. With her melodious and timeless voice, she enriched Indian music for decades," the president said."Her music will live forever. Her demise is an irreparable
loss to music lovers. I convey my heartfelt condolences to her family and countless admirers," she added.
Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan said, "Asha ji's versatile voice allowed her to effortlessly transition across genres, mastering soulful ghazals and traditional bhajans.""Her timeless voice and musical legacy will continue to resonate in the hearts of millions and inspire generations to come," he added.Prime Minister Narendra Modi said he was "Deeply saddened by the passing of Asha Bhosle ji, one of the most iconic and versatile voices India has ever known.""I will forever cherish the memories of my conversations with her. My condolences to her family, fans and music lovers. She will continue to inspire generations and her songs will forever resonate in people's lives," Modi said.Union Home Minister Amit Shah described the day as sorrowful, saying, "Today is a sorrowful day for every Indian, and especially for every music lover like me, as our beloved Asha Bhosle ji is no longer among us."He added that she "not only carved out a unique identity with her sweet voice and unparalleled talent, but also enriched Indian music further through her melodies."Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said, "Through her voice, her art will forever remain immortal amongst us. In this hour of grief, my deepest condolences are with her bereaved loved ones and admirers." Several chief ministers and Union ministers also paid tribute, highlighting Bhosle’s decades-long contribution to Indian music and her enduring legacy across languages and genres.Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy condoled her death and said her extraordinary contributions to music would remain an integral part of India's cultural heritage.Union Minister for Coal and Mines G Kishan Reddy and Union minister Nitin Gadkari also paid tributes to legendary singer. "Asha Tai sang in numerous languages. Her songs will continue to resonate in the hearts of Indian music lovers for years to come. Her demise has cast a pall of grief over the entire music world and all music enthusiasts in India. Her family has suffered a profound loss. I pray that God grants them the strength to bear this sorrow," Gadkari said.
