Fresh
questions were raised in a Bhopal courtroom on Wednesday (May 20) over the police investigation and postmortem process in the death case of 33-year-oldTwisha Sharma, who was found hanging at her in-laws’ residence in Bhopal on May 12, barely five months after her marriage to lawyer Samarth Singh. During the hearing, Twisha’s counsel questioned why the postmortem report did not contain detailed documentation of injuries found on her body. The lawyer also argued that the ligature material, a belt allegedly used in the hanging, was not submitted to doctors on time, preventing proper correlation of the neck marks with the alleged hanging material.
Another discrepancy flagged before the court was the alleged mismatch between Twisha’s height mentioned in the postmortem report and the height recorded in police documents.
CCTV Footage, FIR Contradictions Under Scanner
The hearing also focused on
CCTV footage that has now become central to the investigation. According to the footage cited in court, Twisha was seen going upstairs toward the terrace around 7.20 pm, while around 8.20 pm, three people were allegedly seen bringing her body downstairs. However, the FIR reportedly records her time of death as 10.50 pm, creating a gap of nearly three hours. The court examined whether the CCTV timestamp was incorrect, the death timing was wrongly recorded, or if the discrepancy pointed toward possible foul play. The FIR itself has now come under serious scrutiny due to multiple inconsistencies related to Twisha Sharma’s age and personal details. While one section of the document records her date of birth as April 16, 1987, other portions mention her age as 33 years and elsewhere as 31. Twisha’s family has argued that these contradictions are not mere clerical mistakes but indications of lapses in the investigation that warrant closer examination.
Twisha’s lawyer also questioned why local police were not informed immediately after the incident and raised concerns over the presence of the mother-in-law’s sister at AIIMS during the postmortem process.
Belt Controversy Deepens Probe
The belt allegedly used in the hanging remains at the centre of the controversy. The Bhopal Police Commissioner reportedly admitted that the material had been seized by the Forensic Science Laboratory team but was not sent to the hospital in time, calling it possible negligence and ordering a separate inquiry.Police, however, maintained that the belt was later submitted, and a correlation report was obtained.Meanwhile, Twisha’s husband, Samarth Singh, remains absconding. His anticipatory bail plea has already been rejected, and police have announced a reward of Rs 10,000 for information leading to his arrest.
