The JVC exit poll has predicted that the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) will take the lead in Puducherry assembly election, and cross the half-way mark, to retain its power in the Union Territory. According to the JVC exit poll, the NDA is predicted to win between 15-17 seats, while the Congress-led INDIA bloc may be restricted between 11-13 seats. The TVK may also win 1-2 seats. Polling in Puducherry was held on April 9 and the counting of votes is set for May 4.As the NDA fought to retain power, the opposition Congress-led bloc did its best to wrest power from it in the union territory, with actor-politician Vijay's TVK creating a lot of expectations. Actor-director Seeman's NTK is another party that is in the race, determined to make
a mark.
The Fight in Puducherry
In Puducherry, the election was closely contested between the NDA alliance and the INDIA bloc. The NDA comprises the BJP and the All India NRC Congress (AINRC), led by incumbent Chief Minister N. Rangasamy.

While the INDIA bloc consists of the Congress and the DMK, though, the alliance partners did contest against each other in friendly fights in some of the seats.Puducherry has a total of 30 seats, while a total of 294 candidates were in the fray in Puducherry.

Puducherry Assembly Election 2026 Turnout
Puducherry Assembly elections 2026 were held on April 9 along with Assam and Kerala. The Union Territory (UT) witnessed its highest-ever turnout of 91.23 per cent since 1964. Out of this, 89.87 per cent of votes were polled through EVMs and 1.36 per cent was through postal ballots.In 1964, elections were held in Puducherry following the merger of the territory with India after its independence, a top official said. The UT also recorded its highest voter turnout among third-gender electors at 91.81 per cent. According to the data shared by the Election Commission between April 9 and April 23, Puducherry had 139 third-gender electors, of whom 91.81 per cent exercised their franchise.Barring a minor incident, polling for the Assembly election across the union territory of Puducherry and in its enclaves including Karaikal was peaceful, an official said.

Apart from Puducherry, exit polls have also been released for West Bengal, Assam, Kerala and Tamil Nadu. Results of Assembly elections in all four states and UT Puducherry, will be declared simultaneously on May 4.
